Apartment Storage Solutions

You’re moving into an apartment. You finally have your own place. You’re finally, finally free! We’re here to help with our experience, to make sure you don’t have to make the same mistakes or live with the same annoyances we did. Every apartment will need more storage. We promise. No matter how much storage is built-in, apartments inevitably fall short of what you actually need. Here’s our list of absolute must-haves for apartment storage maximization, so you can do more with your space.

Fabric Storage Cubes

1. Collapsible Fabric Storage Cubes

These fabric cubes pop up to 10.5 in long x 10.5 in wide x 11 in tall. They’re great if you don’t have a dresser and don’t want your socks and undies out all over. They are terrific for organizing different roommates’ items in the bathroom. We love them on a bookshelf hiding clutter and small items like office or crafting supplies we use daily, dividing up important paperwork like taxes and rent payment receipts, holding important mail to go through later, or splitting up items under a sink. They’re attractive enough to be left out, small enough to help maximize shelving, sturdy enough to handle a rabbit chewing on them regularly (just us? OK). Plus they collapse when you don’t need them (bonus) and come in a range of colors.

Combo Cubes

2. Cube Storage Organizer

What can we say? Cubes are great. Just delightful. This cube organizer comes in black, white, and a combo, all with an attractive leaf pattern and they will go with just about anything. What’s more important is that it comes in sets of 6 cubes to 30 cubes, and they thought of literally everything. It’s all included, from the screws to the rubber mallet and fittings that will help prevent toppling from wayward kids, tired roomies, or curious pets. You can put this literally anywhere and create a partition (though the anti-topple fittings can’t be used in the middle of a room), or you can create your own modular storage against a wall or in a closet.

Wardrobe Organizer

3. Expandable Wardrobe Organizer

Admittedly the most spendy recommendation on this list, having lived in several apartments with ridiculously sad closets we can’t recommend this organizer enough. It has multiple shelves for clothing and shoes so you can store them vertically and save floor space. It has two rods for hanging clothing. There’s shelf space on top where you can store seasonal clothes you don’t need all the time. It’s a gem and well worth what you pay for it in terms of sheer storage expansion!

Drawer Dividers

4. Bamboo Adjustable Drawer Dividers

These dividers are a godsend with apartment drawers. They work in your dresser. They work in your bathroom. They work in your kitchen. We’ve used them to separate socks by owner when we only had a single dresser shared among multiple people. We’ve used them to set up separate shelf space in the pantry for personalized snack zones. It’s ridiculous how handy what amounts to an expanding rectangle of bamboo can be!

Wall Hooks with Basket

5. Wall Mounted Basket/Hook Station

This is a great multi-room storage option. Use it in the living room for your keys. Mount it over your sink and hang cleaning brushes off of it and put your sponges in the basket. Use it in the bathroom for hand towels and washcloths, and the basket for cosmetics or hairbrushes. Anything you can use to move your storage onto the walls, freeing up the precious cabinets, shelf, and counter space is a great buy for apartment living.
